3 Minute Short Film

Script 

For my graduation film I have selected the romantic elevator to make and changed the name to “Love in the Lifts”. I have started with the script, and already have an approximate idea of what I want the story to be like.



SCENE 1. MAIN ROAD MORNING
A main road in the business district filled with people in office clothes.
GUY carrying bunch of papers walks towards the building with rotating door and enters.

SCENE 2. GROUND FLOOR MORNING
Guy walks straight towards the lifts.
Presses the lift button and waits.
Lift door opens and guy enters.

LADY

(Off screen voice)

Hold the door please!!!

LADY comes running to the lifts.
Slows down and enters walking.

SCENE 3. LIFT MORNING
Guy lifts his head and sees the woman and drops the papers he is holding and becomes love struck.
The Lady stands in a corner.

SCENE 4. DREAM
The background changes to trees filled with pink leaves and flowers. The flowers are falling in slow motion. There are bells ringing far away.
The Guy’s heart starts beating loudly.

SCENE 5. LIFT. MORNING
The lift stops and the Lady gets out and the door closes.
The Guy after a second shakes his head and gets out of the shock.
The Guy gets out of the elevator in the next floor.

SCENE 6. UPPER FLOOR EVENING
The Guy is standing in front of the lifts.
The lift door opens and he gets on. Door closes.

SCENE 7. LIFT. EVENING.
The doors open.
The Lady gets on the lift. Both of them are standing at opposite sides of the lift.
The lift goes down and Guy tries to say something to her and
the lift door opens.
A Fat Man/Men come stand in the lift and the Lady and Guy are pushed to opposite sides.
The Guy tries to move but is squished.
The lift door opens and Fat Man/Men and the Lady gets out making a small laugh.
Guy finds a wall and bangs his head.

SCENE 8. LIFT. EVENING. DAY 2
The Guy is standing in the lift holding a bunch of flowers.
The lift door opens and a MAN enters leading in a BEAR.
The Man and Bear stand at the back.
The Man is just blank(like a zombie) and the Bear is very restless.
The door is about to open and the Bear eats the flowers the
Guy is holding.
The door opens and the Lady enters.
The man hides the remains of the flower behind is back and smiles awkwardly towards the Lady. The Lady makes a small laugh as she sees the flowers in the Bear’s mouth and its remains peeking out the back.
The Guy becomes red.
The door opens and the Lady, Man and Bear get out. The door closes.
The Guy falls to his knees and becomes sad and smashes the floor.
He squeals in pain from hitting his hand to the floor.

SCENE 9. LIFT EVENING DAY 3
The Guy is standing with a Heart shaped box of chocolates.
The door opens and the Lady enters. The Lady is standing in a corner. Door closes.
The Guy waits this time and door opens.
A old and little fat WOMEN, also his boss, enters.
The Women sees the Guy holding the box, which to her looks like he is about to give her.
The Women takes the box from him.

WOMEN

Thank you very much!

The door opens and the Women exits. Door closes.
The Guy is surprised and his face is stuck in that expression and frozen.
The Lady laughs loudly which the Guy doesn’t notices.
The door opens.
The Lady kisses the Guy on his Cheek and gives him a slip with her phone number and exits the lift.
The Guy realises and his spirit lifts up.
The Guy runs after the Lady.

SCENE 10. MAIN ROAD. ALMOST SUNSET DAY 3
The main road completely empty and a sunset at right end of the road.
The Guy comes out, sees on both sides. He finds her walking on the right side and runs after her.
The Lady turns back and gives a huge smile.

The END.

My Tutor at first said it was a nice but the ending was not good enough and that The Guy din't have enough obstacles to overcome. I thought about it and I couldn't add any more characters or another day into the film as it was big and already had 6 characters to work on. Then after a week I watched the movie "Hotel Transylvania 2" and I later analyzed the movie story line.

At first there was a bit of story build up. Then an problem was introduced in the story. Later, the main character tries a few times to solve it(in this case he uses his friends help), but is unsuccessful. He comes to terms with it and gives up. Then a new hope is introduced in form of a new character, but fails at first and later succeeds.

I thought on this plot for a while and when I started the story-boarding, I  got an idea to introduce an entity(like a poster) as character that gives a new hope. I rewrote the script twice and a little idea from the movie LEGO Movie, I took the cat poster which is both inspirational and comical, and used it. And the Result.

A nicely decorated office lobby with a gift shop on the left of the entrance.
Guy walks straight towards the lifts.
Presses the lift button and waits.
Lift door opens and guy enters.

LADY

(Off screen voice)

Hold the door please!!!

LADY comes running to the lifts.
Slows down and enters walking.

SCENE 3. LIFT MORNING
Guy lifts his head and sees the woman and drops the papers he is holding and becomes love struck.
The Lady stands in a corner.

SCENE 5. LIFT. MORNING
The Lady gets out of the lift and the door closes.
The Guy moves to centre of the lift, he is still shocked.
The Guy gets out of the elevator in the next floor. He gets out of the shock and realises he left his papers on the lift.
Turns back and bangs on the lift.
Realises, and presses the lift door.

SCENE 6. UPPER FLOOR. EVENING
The Guy is standing in front of the lifts.
The lift door opens and he gets on. Door closes.

SCENE 7. LIFT. EVENING.
The doors open.
The Lady gets on the lift. Both of them are standing at opposite sides of the lift.
The lift goes down and Guy tries to say something to her and the lift door opens.
A Fat Man comes and stands in the lift and the Lady and Guy are pushed to opposite sides.

Guy bangs his head on the lift wall.

SCENE 8. LIFT. EVENING. DAY 2
The Guy is standing in the lift holding a bunch of flowers.
The lift door opens and a MAN enters leading in a BEAR.
The Man and Bear stand at the back.
The Man is just blank(like a zombie) and the Bear is very restless and the Guy is surprised and shaking.
The door is about to open and the Bear eats the flowers the
Guy is holding.
The door opens and the Lady enters.
The man hides the remains of the flower behind is back and smiles awkwardly towards the Lady. The Lady makes a small laugh as she sees the flowers in the Bear’s mouth and its remains peeking out the back.
The Guy becomes red.
The door opens and the Lady, Man and Bear get out. The door closes.

He covers his face and is sad.

SCENE 9. LIFT EVENING DAY 3
The Guy is standing with a Heart shaped box of chocolates.
The door opens and the Lady enters. The Guy and The lady
Smile at each other. The Lady stands in the right. Door closes.
The Guy waits this time and door opens.
A old and little fat WOMEN, also his boss, enters.
The Women sees the Guy holding the box, which to her looks like he is about to give her.
The Women takes the box from him.

WOMEN

Thank you very much!

The door opens and the Women exits. Door closes.
The Guy is surprised and his face is stuck in that expression and frozen.
The Lady laughs loudly which the Guy doesn’t notices.
The door opens.
The Lady exits the lift laughing.
The Guy really sad, also exits the lift slowly.

SCENE 10. GROUND FLOOR. EVENING
The Guy slowly walks towards the doors.
The Guy stops and looks at a cat poster, saying Believe and a cat carrying a heart, which is in a gift shop. The Guy sees a lot of cat posters around it.
The Guy realises and believes in his love.
The Guy goes to the gift shop and buys some flowers and chocolates.

SCENE 11. MAIN ROAD. ALMOST SUNSET DAY 3
The main road completely empty and a sunset at right end of the road.
The Guy comes out, sees on both sides. He finds her walking on the right side and runs after her.
The Guy runs to her.
The Guy gives the chocolates and flowers and talks to the Lady.
The Guy and the Lady both walk together
The Lady turns towards him and gives a kiss on his cheek and turns front.

The END.
